BORN TO HANG | CONTEMPORARY GROUP SHOW
October–November 2018, Esernyős Gallery, Budapest
At the initiative of the Visegrad Contemporary festival, two of Art Market Budapest’s Warsaw-based exhibitors, the galleries Apteka Sztuki and Le Guern have joined forces to present a group exhibition located in the center of Óbuda, one of the most populated districts of Budapest. Selecting this specific location was inspired by the sister city relationship between Óbuda and Warsaw’s Bemowo district, since this joint artistic effort aims to exemplify cultural cooperation within the Visegrad Group.
The exhibition, featuring some of Poland’s finest contemporary artists, presents a kind of cross section of trends dominating contemporary Polish painting, graphic art and sculpture. The exhibited emerging and mid-career artists are all of outstanding artistic background, their practices are characterized by experimentation, creativity and a unique, personal approach. Another particularity of the show is that the works of these 11 artists are also linked by their use of visual elements originating from the Far East, which they each employ in some particular way, be it through the mimicking of Japanese calligraphy or the re-thinking of traditional Chinese clothing as elements of pop culture.
